Timber frame vapour barrier question

Hi all,

So I have a timber frame extension, solid, no cavity, it's structural timber beams and insulation in between i.e. think boarder oak/ Tudor house style.

I want to externally insulate the external walls but leave the internal timber showing.

I understand the vapour barrier should go on the inside i.e. warm side before the insulation but I can't obviously.

Where do I put the vapour barrier, I guess I need one?

thanks in advance

Mark

A vapour barrier is to stop warm moist air migrating through permeable elements of the structure and condensing on the nearest cold spot. In your case you will be insulating where the cold spot would have been so no need for a vapour barrier.
