I just bought a Muller FS 60.18 time switch. It's to control a 3400W storage heater rated 16 amps. It comes with a wiring diagram but, it doesn't explain in laymans terms where the wires go.
Can anyone please tell me, in simple terms, where live, neutral and earth from the supply go, and live, neutral and earth from the heater go.

Thanks[/code]

So you're saying, mains neutral to 5. Mains live to 3 linkage to 4. Live from 1 to heater? What about 2? And where do the earths go?

Terminal 2 is not used in a simple heater control. It is live when the Timer is showing OFF and terminal 1 is NOT live.

The earths need to be connected together. The exact method of connecting the earths on the enclosure you fitting the timer into.

Some enclosures have terminals for the earth wires.

Where and in what are you fixing the timer ?

The timer is tobe fitted from a fused switch to the heater and wall mounted next to the switch

You cannot just fit this timer to a wall and connect wires to it unless you are using the plug in base. This base will not provide for earth continuity and the opening in the terminals may not be large enough to take the two neutrals needed. ( neutral from meter and neutral to heater )

Surface mounting With plug-in base and terminal cover

It is not really designed to be mounted on an exposed wall in a room without some mechanical protection.

And then you will need to ensure correct cable management and any necessary strain reliefs are in place.

Class of protection II when installed according to regulations

The plug in base has no provision for earth connections.

An auxiliary 4 terminal junction 30 amp box will be needed with terminals for

Live
Switched live
Neutral
Earth

Twin and earth cable from supply
Twin and earth cable to the heater
Three wires to the time switch ( Live, Switched Live and Neutral ).
Do NOT use the earth of twin and earth as a neutral to the time switch

As this is going to be wall mounted and not safely behind a panel I would make the following change to the wiring in respect of terminals 1 and 3

Link the incoming live to terminals 4 and 1

Take the switched live to the heater from terminal 3

This change means the un-used terminal 2 does not become live when the time swich is OFF
