Hi all,

Another silly question I am afraid :)

We have got a combi boielr in our new house. The thermostat is on the wall downstairs by the looks of things and we want to get a timer installed. How easy is this for a plumber to do for us...and more importantly what sort of price would we be looking at?

The combi is upstairs in one of the bedrooms in a cupboard and we want to get the timer put downstairs...at the moment if we want the Central Heating on we are having to go upstairs and actually turn the boiler on and the heating comes on...but we want to have a control downstairs for that on the timer.

Any help gratefully appreciated :)

Get a prorgammable room stat fitted in the place of your existing room stat. Have a look at the Siemens REV23.

I would expect around £150 all in.

And would this control the full heating system? Would this just be a straight swap for the existing thermostat?

Also....(sorry this is a really stupid question!)....does the boiler remain at the "off" position on the control on it once we get a timer fitted?

PS: Thanks for the speedy reply :D

Yes this will give full ch control, on/off and room temperature, 3 warm periods a day if wanted, each with different temps and each day different as well.

Yes it just replaces the room stat. It only need the switched live from the boiler and return back. It runs off its own batteries.

Your boiler would then be left 'on' 24hrs a day and the stat will control it.

So in the 'on' would you just turn the control round a certain amount of the way and leave it as that and it would only 'sound as on' when the timer told it to be on?

Sorry don't really understand the tecchy bit and how it works as at the mo it only makes noise when we turn it 'on' obviously so can't understand how this would be any different! :)

So we could in theory just buy the Siemens unit you mentioned, have somebody in who would then remove the Honeywell thermostat we have and pop this one on using the same wiring etc?

Thanks

Tom

Although reading up on this...we could get the wireless one, therefore meaning we would just connect the receiver to the boiler? And remove the old room thermostat?

Does that sound right....

Yes you could do but why pay more for the wirless model when the wires are there

Visit HERE for the best price on these ;)

Fair point. Would I just need to get an electrician in to do the wiring or would it be a plumber then? <<< Another daft question :(
