Timer switch for outside lights?

Hi, we have outside lights on an internal light switch.

This is a double switch that has the outside light on one switch and our hall lights on the other.

Is there a timer/switch that would mean the outside lights can bet set to go on and off rather than waiting for us to return home when its dark and manually switch on?

Thanks

If you mean a timer that can replace your double switch, then no (not that I've ever seen anyway). Depending how much of the circuit you have access to, then yes it can be done. You could also get more sophisticated and have a photocell downstream of the timer, then you don't have to worry about changing the timer as the evenings get lighter.

yes you can (or used to be able to anyway). Not suitable for an energy saving bulb outside though.

You would be much better off with a PIR outside though (maybe built into the light) which would come on when a person approaches.

You probably need one of THESE

One switch is a security switch that comes on when its dark and goes off after the time you set.
The other switch is a standard one that would operate your hall light.

Its a straight swop with the switch you already have - no additional wiring, at all.
Will that do?

if he has an internal light on near this switch, which is also internal then it will not operate.

why not get an exterior light fitting with a photocell incorporated, it will come on in the dark. if you dont want it to you can isolate it at the already installed switch. Or you could fit a light fitting with a photo cell and just near it fit a timer so that you can control when the photocell operates.

you could fit the linked equipment to a light fitting with a pir and it will do all you want it to
