Hi,

my toilet is struggling to fill property. A few times I turned the water off at the stop valve and then cleaned the cistern a little (just with my fingers) and then it worked once I turned the water on again. I don't really understand why it needed cleaning every time I flushed it as it can't get that dirty every time.

The last time I did this though, it didn't solve the problem and took about 20-30 minutes to fill.

Anyone know what the problem could be? Could it be that something is slightly out of place and when cleaning it I was knocking back into place so it worked?

most likely the venturi in the filler valve is cloged, either with debris from the incoming main or limescale.. are you in ahard water area?

sorry see you are from soton, wont hold that against you lol limescale is most likely culprit. isolate cistern and separate filler head. will find trumpet shaped item inside. hole in middle clogged most likely cause. A local plumber will sort this out in about 20 minutes imho

Venturi? In a float/inlet/fill/filler valve?

Venturi is an effect created by restriction, not a part or part thereof.

Venturi; a short tube with a constricted throat that is used to determine fluid pressures and velocities by measurement of differential pressures generated at the throat as a fluid transverses the tube, also known as a venturi tube. the action caused is called the venturi effect.

Go tell that to Giovanni:

The Venturi effect is named after Giovanni Battista Venturi.
The Venturi effect is the reduction in fluid pressure that results when a fluid flows through a constricted section of pipe.
