Toilet flush

OK thanks can you tell me what is wrong with it and which bit is the syphon, please? I like to know what I am doing as well as just doing it, if that makes sense.

The syphon is the big blue/white thing in the middle that the handle linkage is joined to.
Inside is a large poly washer that needs replaceing...i cut my own from thick poly but they only cost pence.
 
Fantastic video.

The large diameter plastic diaphram that acts as a one way valve is perished/cracked, letting water by when lifting plunger. You can replace them for pennies, but most people replace the whole lot, as you have to take the whole thing apart anyway.
 
Thank you both. Just emptied it - got to wait for it to dry so I can put sealant where the new part will fix to the ceramics right?

The large washer will do the job without sealant.
 
I took it apart and found this:



I cut the same shape from some thick plastic packaging I had (waste (pun intended) not want not etc) and it works perfectly. Thanks very much!
