Toilet runs on when flushed . . . .

We've noticed our toilet runs on for longer than it used to, with a trickle of water for an extra 15-20 secs or so. What could be the reason for this?

Also, finding it a puzzle to understand how you get in to the tank as the lid appears to be fixed to the tank. Photo attached. Any help gratefully received.

I believe that push button screws off anti-clockwise?

It's a sign that your syphon is on it's way out.

Dont think you will find a syphon in their.

if it doesn't screw off, push one of the buttons down. on the side of the other button you may find a "notch" to flick it out, then remove other button. should see a screw in the bottom.

If there is no syphon what might be the problem? It seems to be getting worse with a regular hiss every few minutes as if there is a gas cannister in there . . . . (I know there isn't).

It'll be a drop flush valve. If you take the lid off then unsnap the valve from the bayonet and inspect the washer you might well find that it's blistered. You'll need a new washer
