fitting new toilet and the back of the old one is connected to the soil pipe with a rubber "bandage" which spans the 2 mm gap .. It has been on for 40 years and works fine.. Can you still get these ... The merchants keep want to sell me Multikwik .. I have attached a picture of how it is now.. It has writing on it that says .. BSS WASHDOWN 4 1/4 " TO 4 5/8" OD PAN SPIGOT../ POLYFLEX .. HARRISON DESIGN .. MADE IN ILKLEY

hope someone can help as it seems daft to replace what is already working..

Cheers

Looks like a Gibcon type pan connector. The new pan will have a shorter spigot so this type of connector won't work. If you could find one!

But that is what you propose to do. Why not do it with something readily available?
Is the one fitted now not re-usable?

pics of spigot that I need to keep or fit new
It's not a spigot. The referrence to spigot on the connector is the sizes of spigots it will fit.
