Hi

Am half way through re-insulating loft with 270mm (two layers with second fitted at right angle etc). One corner of loft (over bathroom) was done quite recently when we had new ceiling lights fitted. At that time I used those fire resistant pots over the lights and then ran the insulation over that.

My only query is that this section already has insulation to about 270 mm but artificially so because it's laid over those pots. Should I add another layer to this section as well, even though this would increase height to about 500mm on some areas?

Thanks

Cheers.

In relation to ventilation gap at eaves etc. I've seen different things posted. What do you recommend?

Hi

Reason for seeking clarity is that when you put down first layer, you can a gap with ease. However, when installing second layer at right angles, this butts up against pitch and wasn't clear whether you needed another gap at that point.

Apologies if breathtakingly naive.

you need to vent the roof void so a through flow from outside and all round the area above the insulation

Thanks, it's just that venting roof void and obtaining through flow never seems to play out on any of the videos or other tutorials you see. They just slap down the second layer at right angles without further ado.

Yes but your missing the point, just don't stuff to much at the egdes or you will block the ventilation from the eaves.... Which is very important..(that you don't)

Thanks

Message understood, don't want the timers to start rotting etc. Other then eaves are there any other points of ventilation I need to worry about?

Hi

Slight variation on a theme. Have small raised area in loft where water tank used tone. I can get one layer of insulation underneath but not the second to match the rest of the loft. Would you just leave this or try and run second later over plinth? (Would be difficult as already use it for storage)

Thanks again
