Hi guys.
Something strange seems to be happening. I always thought that you would notice a loss of trap seal only once you have shut off the tap as the foul smell comes up the trap. Recently i have noticed that when i open the wash basin taps the foul smell comes up and when i close them the smell stops. Shouldn't that be the other way round? Thank you 4 your clarification.

tried cleaning the trap out or the overflow in the basin. ?
Hi seco services and thanks 4 your reply. I did not think of that but if the trap was dirty, then why should it smell only when i open the taps and not when i stop running water? Thanks again.

maybe its only when you open the tap your stiring up the water in the trap so releasing the smell like a drain would.
also the overflows get blocked, see if you can push a coat hanger down it you be surprised the muck they collect.

Thanks again, i will try that on monday. Should the smell still persist after cleaning both, do you think an AAV should sort the problem or nothing to do with it?

is the trap emptying or is their always water still in it.
I do not know, i will have to check 4 that but if the trap was emptying wouldn't i get foul smell as soon as the water has stopped running??.......while at the mo i only get foul smell when the water is running which is what is puzzling me!! :? Thanks again 4 your time

BTW checked the trap seal this morning and the water seal is there. Does it tell me that the only possible cause of smell are a dirty trap or dirty overflow?
