On mine this bit is removable, it just lifts up and you can see the outlet going into the drain pipe.

Trap with no outlet

Thank you for all your suggestions, I may have been premature in dismissing the plunger option, but I was thinking about the basic plugger I think it's worth a try, thank you. As for unscrewing the trap, I think this would be a risk that could lead to a situation that I could not reassemble the trap without distroring my bathroom.
With the top half out you could probably get a flexible snake type unblocker in there
