Treatment for new softwood garage doors

Hi I have just bought some softwood garage doors. I want to paint them with a cream gloss paint but not sure what undercoat primer etc to use for long lasting results. Advice on what type of gloss paint to use would also be appreciated.

If the doors have knots on them try using an aluminum primer followed by 2 undercoats (to cover the grey aluminum primer) then your gloss. I like to use dulux weathersheild for these types of jobs but people have differing preferences. Johnstones stormsheild is also very good!
