Trimming bushes back

Its the bushes that run along the boundary 6' fence.

What time of year is best to do them and how much trimming appropriate?

Work out what they are and see what “pruning group” they belong to on the RHS website. Example: eucalyptus - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=136

In most cases I would suggest much later in the winter than October. Butit does depend on what they are....
