Whichever way you look at Trump, the USA are our biggest and most powerful ally that we need to keep on our side, we should have allowed the USA to use our bases on the first phone call and not take 36 hrs, we are reliant on the USA for our military operations as withoutt them we are nothing and that is a fact. NATO is also reliant on the USA, so Trump aside, he will not be here for ever and we need to rebuild that special relationship we held with them. We do not need to comit troops in an attacking role but we do need to do our bit in the defensive roole, that includes keeping the Straits of Hormuz clear for the sake of the worlds economy as it is in our own interest.

We still need them John, it is a fact that our army and Navy are now pretty insignificant on the world stage and both NATO and the US basically prop us up through years of lack of spending, investment and reducing the size of our forces. It is obvious now that this was a bad move, cutting military spending is a false economy.
