TRV temp range??

Hi,
Just wondering if there is a standard temperature range for TRV's?
Eg 18-22 deg
THe reason im asking is that my TRV's just have a blue zero,blue star,1,2,3,and a red star on the dial (and in that order)
the brand is MYSON.

Between 5 and 28 deg, 5 being the blue asterix and 28 the red aterix,
manufacturers/ models vary.

Mine must be crap so!!
I have them all down and practically 0 and they dont seem to be switching off bar one or two even though the house is melting!!

If i opened the windows the roof would blow off...serios wind here at the moment!!
Have the TRV in my sittin g room turned all the way down to zero and the rad is still melting..as is the room cos theres an open fire in there...is it possible for these to stick open?

sounds like your trvs are dead. whatever the brand or model, you can turn them down, if not completely off

Id say they are blocked or something...surely though they are mechanical to an extent?...In other words if i lock up the valve surely it should stop flow completely?...or is there a spring involved in seating the valve(i havent seen the internals so i dont know how they work)

Set the valve to max then remove the top by undoing the large chrome knurled nut. This will expose the pin of the valve. If you press down on this pin, e.g. with a pair of pliers, it should move down about 5mm and then spring up when you release pressure. If it will not go down, it may be stuck. Hit (not too hard) the side of the valve to try and release it. If this does not work, use your pliers to pull the pin up gently. Be careful not to bend the pin.

Replace the top (leave it at max while you do it) then check if there is any improvement.

To check if the pin is actually stopping the flow, you will need to remove the top and clamp the pin down (carefully), say with a pair of mole-grips. Then wait to see if the rad cools down

If the valve is stopping the flow, but not controlling the temperature properly, the chances are that the system is not correctly balanced.

Most Helpful D-Halisman...ill try that tonight...some rads are going off but more are staying on...id say they are all stuck some bit,ill get to the bottom of it!!!

Spot on with your diagnosis!!
Did what you said and they were all stuck!!..some stuck in some stuck out.
They are all working really well now switching the whole time and once my living room heated up this evening it remained off as there is an open fire lighting there all eve.
Seem to be getting a bit of water hammer now as i suspect all the switching on and off has probably dislodged some air but ill sort that out tomorrow hopefully...will have to rebalance the whole system again as the whole dynamics are surely shanged now.
