The TRV in my kitchen has broken off at the point where the collar is tightened.
It is now useless .Can I replace just the top part of the valve or do I have to replace the whole thing which presumably means draining the whole system.
The TRV is a Barlo and is all plastic outside including the "legs".
It was installed at least 15 years ago

I would replace it.

Will involve draining your system and not too difficult if you have a rad valve allen key.
Use lots of ptfe tape on the tails going into the rad

Thanks for your thoughts you have confirmed what I expected.
A nice job for a wet November day
