Hi
I'm getting ready to lay some turf. Ouite a large plot, trying to level at the moment. Could someone advise me on the following:
1. I will spray weedkiller on the weeds first but not sure what type to use.
2. I was going to use sandy loam to level off the bumps but do you buy sandy loam or make it up yourself, if so how.
3. Whats the best base dressing / fertilizer to use before the turf goes down.

Spray the area with Round-up, as this herbicide is a good safe broad spectrum one. Leveling it with a good grade topsoil that you should get from a landscape supply yard, but do buy quality. I would not worry about putting down a feed before you lay turf as the turf itself will be well feed, I would look at feeding about 4 weeks after laying and then always feed Spring and Autumn with the correct fertiliser.
