I'm intending to turn off the gas when we go away as there will be no need for hot water and it might make the house a bit cooler (and safer). The instructions that came with my Worcester Greenstar say that I can switch off the boiler and timer but to leave the mains connected. Just wondering why.

Otherwise the HW will not work...the section you are reading is to turn the central heating off during the summer....

boilers all have different functions when turned off, some have a frost ptotection function built into the boiler, some have a daily pump and fan kick briefly to stop them seizing when the boiler is not in use
