Hi everyone.

I’m putting together a kit list for wiring a security light above the garage door. The light itself has a 0.75m tail of flexible cable attached which I plan to feed through a hole in the wall and connect internally to a box. This will go to a DP switch on the wall and then onwards to an existing junction box which connects to the lighting circuit.

I’m planning to use T&E cable for the “indoor” part of the circuit, and in my plan I’ve determined that 1.0mm2 will be appropriate as there is only going to be a single 20w LED PIR light on the circuit. Would my logic be correct or should I be using 1.5mm? The cable will be clipped to the wall in the garage.

Yes correct 20W is one twelfth of an Amp and 1mm² T&E can carry 16 Amps so a bit of spare capacity.

1mm2 is fine, it was commonly used for higher current domestic circuits before use led’s became widespread
