Moved into our house and on the EPC it said it could do with a thicker hot cylinder jacket.

Saw one at screwfix, which puts my winter coat to shame.

The question is, can I simply put that over the existing one, or is it recommened to remove the old one first?

My logic is the existing one is a jumper and the new one will be a coat over that, so better

Two are better than one. Overlap to stagger the joints. Don't insulate over the immersion heater cap.

Do the hot pipes as well.

It is factory fitted!

Not really worth doing anything else really but if you wanted to you could put a jacket over it.

My advise would be just to use a blanket over it and not to spend money on something which will not fit well anyway!

I've put some old duvets and pillows around ours. Not esp neat, but hasn't costs anything. The marginal benefit on a preisnulated cylinder must be small, esp as for much of the year it is just adding to the house heating

However it is worth paying attention to the pipes from the cylinder. Put you The vertical pipe from the cyclinder, gets very hot with HW, even when there have been no draw offs, and I recently fitted an essex flange and the horizontal section of pipe from that gets very hot.
