Hi chaps,

We have a concrete floor in our out-house (soon to be christmas food room for when the screaming hoards arrive). Oddly, the right hand side has been leveled in the past, but the left hand side hasn't. No idea why.

Both sides have a water proof layer, though the left hand side has it's water proof layer exposed (they just didnt lay the concrete) and as a result over the years it's worn a bit.

I was planning on using this to refresh the damp proof on the left hand side ( http://tinyurl.com/395ju3 ) but what should I use to...glue...it in to place with ? Is there a special tar like stuff I can use around the edges?

Also, the left hand side slopes from the front to the rear of the room so that the far end is level with the leveled right hand side, but the front end is about 2 inches lower. Now, all the self leveling concrete I have seen says for a maximum of about 3 or 4 mm, which isn't enough. Is there something you can recommend for distances of a few mil's up to several inches? It has to be able to dry by xmas though :)

Olly - are you saying that the section without concrete is a couple of mm at one end & a couple of inches at the other, also with the old damp proof membrane running from under the layed concrete then across the bare section? I so, I'd dig out the shallow & sloped area to a decent depth (maybe 100mm deep 'cos it's a outhouse & not a garage), lay a new bit of Damp-Proofing Membrane 1000 Gauge: http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/152858...vJOxcInvY1H4JwBcSZ2MIfCIMv2VNq1z WJ9bQPNXrg==
not the stuff you illustrated - that's dpc for walls.

The membrane is brought-up the walls (and the join with the existing slab) and new concrete is poured. The new stuff will be fine/hard for Xmas but don't attempt to lay tiles/carpet/timber/etc. over. No need to glue the membrane down as the poured concrete holds it in place.

Great. Thanks for the advice.

Given the varying differences of depth, what would you recommend i use as the screed? Should I go for something like a water based self levelling thing ?

Olly

Olly - just mix the concrete and trowel it level with the existing section. Worry about screed, levelling compounds, etc. etc. etc. later when you've decided on what sort of final floor covering you want.
