TWO switches on my hot water tank?

I wouldn`t have a party in your pants just yet, I`ve seen cylinders vented from further down the hot draw off, just because it`s not conventional doesn`t mean it hasn`t been done or won`t work.

only some numbnut would plumb it like that.

Should I leave the bottom switch on or off?

Off.

Turn on the top switch if your boiler breaks down and you have no hot water, this will heat your hot water cylinder. as soon as your boiler is repaired turn it off. (like it is now )

where talking about the cylinder vent pipe.

Nope, you and Dan are talking about the vent pipe, I was discussing his electrics, which was the question the poster asked.

So if you asked your GP about an ingrowing toenail, and he didn't mention the cancerous lump on your neck (ahem) - that's OK?

You and Kn*obend are jumping to conclusions, why is his system unvented, do you know that? you don`t, stop embarassing yourself any further. Another Dan Robinson Big Mouth Bomb. 8)

This seems to be degenerating, but thanks for those replies which have been informative.

So I'm gathering that;

1) the thing on the right isn't a vent?
2) I should leave both switches OFF and it won't impair my hot water supply when using the central heating to heat it
3) The whole system is potentially unsafe and possibly lethal?

that about a fair summary?

Going upstairs to have a closer look for a vent.

Afraid so Matt, I would advise get a good Plumber round who knows about plumbing and electrics.

Bamber does tend to have this effect on threads.

He does occasionally come up with worthwhile answers, but, let us say they're not original or non-pastable.

that vent is not on the dhw side.
where talking about the vent for the dhw
follow the pipe out of the top of the cylinder.
should have a pipe that comes from that pipe and hangs over the cws tank in loft.

I'm not arguing 'cos there is no side yet. You need to demonstrate something other than belligerence.

I tried to answer the poster as honestly as I could, he asked about the electrics above his tank and I gave an honest answer. I know have you 2 monkeys getting excited about a vent pipe, I have also explained that just because you don`t see it does not mean it`s not there.

I think you and your monkey would be best leaving this one alone, you are obviously out of your depth.
