Can I send a live feed (from L1) to one light when the switch is down and a live feed (from L2) to a different light when the switch is up? If not, how can I do it ?

You could do that but one of the lights will be on all the time. Why not get a 2 gang switch and send a live feed from L1 on first switch to L1 on second switch.

Thanks for that.

I will want one of the feeds live all the time as one will be a PIR light outside the verander and one will be a light on the veranda. When the veranda light is off I want the other light available to come on if anyone approaches but we don't want it to activate if we are sitting there with the lights on.

Again thanks for your help.

hello Richardv it does help if you give all the correct information whne you ask a question, we are not mind readers, is there anything else you would like to add before i give my reply?

I would suggest thaty you have a 2 gang 2 way switch, one for each.

Althouigh a one gang 2 way will work, either the porch light on or the pir operated light on, whta will you do when you want both off?

Or a alternative, have the pir light wired off the ring main, and put hat over the pir when you dont want it on and you are sitting in your porch, much easier, less hassle and you need not worry about switches

Thanks for your time in helping to solve this problem.

I'll walk down the high street and if I come to an electrical shop first I'll go the '2 way 2 gang' route, if I come to a milliners first I'll go the Hat Route.

Seriously, thanks again for your interest.

i was actually being serious.

alternative is to supply pir operated light from ring main via switched fcu

Breezer has a point. Some day you might want to isolate all the lights on your veranda at once. On the other hand I can see the advantages of a single switch to flip between the two lights.

I had an almost identical problem. Solution:

1) Start with an FCU off the ring. I think it's good practice to put an outside light on its own fuse anyway.

2) Get a grid switch type plate into which you fit your 2 way switch and a neon.

3) Connect the veranda light and PIR as you describe but add the neon in parallel with the PIR.

With this arrangement you'll have a neon to show you when your PIR circuit is active, a single switch to flip over to your outside light and a fuse you can pull for maintenance.
