The government won't allow new drilling in the North Sea, but have now allowed the purchase of refined oil products of Russian origin and the direct import of LNG.

Norway is actually reopening oil and gas fields in the north sea, directly adjacent to our reserves that we can't drill, purely to supply us.

So we pay tax and wages to another country to supply us with oil and gas that we have in our own reserves and does not reduce consumption at all.

This government's energy policy is absolute madness.

When North Sea oil fields were discovered in the late 1960s and 1970s, the UK government created the British National Oil Corporation (BNOC) to hold state stakes. However, following Margaret Thatcher's election in 1979, the government's economic philosophy shifted heavily toward free markets and privatization. Through the Oil and Gas (Enterprise) Act of 1982, the state sold off its upstream production businesses, and previously state-backed entities like BP and Britoil were privatized

It's worse than financial madness, it's ecological madness too. Huge amounts of fossil fuels are used to transport all the imported fuels here.

But beyond the current madness, this crackpot government is now introducing legislation to ban new drilling.

The private companies want to explore and drill, the government is taxing them out of existence or just outright banning them.
