hi i want to install under unit lighting in my kitchen can i spur off a ring main to pick up the power for the switch & lights ? if so how do i do it & what do i need[/b]

Use switched fused spur with 3A fuse in it. Spur off the ring (make sure it is a ring first!). The output (load) side of the fused spur goes to your lights. TUrn the switch on and the lights will then light up.

Please remember that electrical work in kitchens is notifiable.

A lot of under unit lights are extra low voltage, so you may want to run cable to a transformer(s) on top of the cabinet, and then run the ELV cables back down again to the lights.
