Occasionally each autumn, when I turn on my underfloor heating, one or two zones fail to restart. My normal practice is then to fit new batteries to the Polypipe room thermostats, turn up the temperature setting, and make sure each is calling for heat. Then wait and see what works. Then into the cupboard to check the red lights and the valve heads. Often if I unscrew the valve head for a problem zone - assuming there isn't a red light in an adjacent box - and have a general check, then gently tap the protruding stem. To be honest I don't fully understand the system but often - by more luck than judgement - that area works again.
I would love to understand more about the system. Can anyone guide me to a site that includes a clear description how it all works?
Also, can someone suggest a better start-of-season routine? And finally, do my problems indicate that an overhaul is needed - such as what - replace those four valves? or a full drain and flush?
Many thanks,
Alec.
