Unswitched Double Sockets

No.

The load can still be isolated by unplugging but it's not an issue that the socket itself is still live.

Was just wondering as somebody seemed to think you should be able to switch them off incase you couldn't pull the plug out. Wasn't sure myself obvioulsy. :)

Ah, I'm with you now. You're thinking about isolating the appliance connected to the socket rather than the socket itself.

Back in the days when some mains supplies were D.C., the Wiring Regs. stipulated that every socket on a D.C. system must be controlled by a switch, either integral or adjacent. That was to prevent the arcing which could occur with D.C. when withdrawing a plug under load. But the regs. have never required switched sockets for A.C. systems.
