What do we think of this? I just think it smacks of yet another gimmick that isn't addressing the root issues. There is an argument that, pound for pound, it's a cheaper option for the taxpayer.

On a phone-in today someone said it'll just be used by asylum seekers to make some £££ i.e. they'll accept the money to leave, and then pop back across.

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY - Seeking illegal immigrants with 1,500 euros in their pocket. Guaranteed 10-20X return in just a few months. May involve getting your feet wet.

What prevents them from coming back?

Surely if they are able to leave we can make them leave?

Cheaper than Rawannda, real estate now available in Teyran, self build only
Great idea we could probably take them on the ship we are sending. rumour has it, HMS Victory will get there before HMS Dragon.

Net migration down. Asylum is becoming temporary. Restrictions on family resettlement. Visa bans on 4 countries. Deportation for a suspended sentence (not jail).

But hey, just keep reading the Mail.

So the part of the plan about giving families up to £40k isn't true?

I am open to most ideas to end this problem. Let's give it a go and see if it works.

The dangers of abuse may be overstated. I can't see many people giving people smugglers £15k to take them from their home country and travel illegally to the UK, just to be given £10k to go back where they started.

Prices have fallen : a recent reports from 2024 and 2025 indicate prices for a place in a small boat have dropped to between £500 and £1,000.
