(up to) £40k golden goodbye for asylum seekers.

Who said just 10k? If I sold up I'd have a lot more than that and so would most Brits, the 40k for my family might give me the push I needed to get out of here.....I'll say again Think on.....
Assuming you have a skillset in demand, how long and at what cost would it take to convert to local regulations and customs?

So assuming you sold your average UK house for the average £250,000, and it costs you about £20,000 for travel costs and accommodation for 2 weeks in Australia for a family of 4, and it takes you a couple of months to come up to speed on Australia regulations and customs, and find work, say, at a cost of £2,000, and you need £500,000 for an average Australian house., and it's cost about £5,000 to ship your belongings to OZ.
You started with £250,000 + £40, 000 government money = £290,000

But you've spent about £40,000 travel fares and accommodation for the first month, £5,000 for shipping your effects, £2,000 for looking for work and training,
Of the £290,000 you started with you now have less than the £250,000 from the sale of your house in UK, and you need £500,000 to buy an average Ozzie house.
Still considering it, as a money making exercise?

You assume a lot Bill, I dont like blowing my own trumpet but I've done well if I wanted to do what you suggest I could do it with ease and buy a portfolio of Australian property...

Im not considering it as I love the UK, I just said the 40k might give some people a push..

Think on...

I'm just pointing out that the £40,000 for a family of four does not make economic sense, the additional £40,000 would be more than swallowed up by moving, fares, temporary accommodation costs, etc.
And they would be faced with mortgage problems, and finding employment immediately, or have to tolerate poor housing conditions.
It's not sufficient, imo, to give anyone a push, unless they were already seriously considering it anyway, and were young enough to start over. In which case they would probably be young and single, so it would only be £10,000.
But it's all hypothetical because it's not available for them. I'm just making you and others aware of the costs of upping sticks to another country, even if there were no restrictions on entry and residence. But there are those also.

I would give it some serious consideration if I were you, imagine getting away from those outdoor lights each side of your TV.
