hi all out there
i am looking for some advice. I am in the process of remodelling my house from a 3 to a five bed property with 3 bathrooms etc. My boiler is 3 years old but can not power the property as i have been told. My builder has suggested a combi and quotes 35oo for supply and installations with a 3 year garanteee. A friend has suggested we go for a megaflo if we want to achieve the best from the boiler and the family i.e. multi use of bath rooms.
What should i go for and how much should i expect for either systems?
Cheerio - thanks for your time

don't get your "builder" to do the work, call a recommended gas safe engineer for a quote who will check your water pressure & flow. A heat loss calc needs to be worked out too.

did you consider posting in the plumbing section? where there are lots of helpfull plumbers who will offer advice on what's good and what's crap?

What is your existing boiler?

If you are changing the house from 3 to 5 bed with 3 bathrooms, I assume you are extending the house. The extension will have to meet current insulation standards. Are you improving the insulation of the existing house at the same time, e.g cavity insulation, loft insulation, double glazing etc?

A heat loss calculation should have been done on the remodelled house to make sure it meets Building Regulations. What were the results?

A whole house boiler sizing calculation may help.

Combi boilers may not be suitable for so many bathrooms.

Regardless, no combi will ever supply three bathrooms at the same time!

Even a Magaflow will not either as one cylinder cannot supply more than about 25 li/min due to the resistance of the connections.

It would also need a VERY good mains supply! That would have to be 35 mm minimum.

Thats based on filling baths at about 14 li/min each. Of course it would work to a lesser degree.

I really cannot understand how a builder can say those things because if the customer does what he says whet happens when it does not work?

HI Tony
thanks very much - will a combi supply two at the same time or am i better off with a megaflo? :)

It all depends on what you want.

A high power combi will supply about 15 li/min/

Thats fine for one bath but do you want just 7 li/min between two.

At this point I do have to wonder about the sanity of those people who apparently line up the family with their towels and blow a whistle and then they all run to each of the three bathrooms so they all turn the taps on for the same 10 minutes !

Why are you unable to prevent more than one person at a time filling the baths?

There are over 100 10 minute slots in the core day! Why does your family insist on filling baths together?
