Hi all.

I'm currently renovating a room in an approx 1920s end terrace. The room has a cast iron fireplace in it. On removing this a lot of brickwork fell from around the fireplace and it seems there is no lintel at all.

However it does seem that it might have been an arch at some point? I'm looking at replacing the fireplace once the wall is replasterd and wanted to know if a lintel is needed?

Thanks in advance

I would say no lintel needed there

If you also try putting one in you may end up exposing the adjacent flue coming from downstairs

Looks like the brickwork that's fallen out is the rubble infil behind the cast iron insert and possibly a formed throat.

I'd say no lintel required. The hole is too small.
