My loft is being professionally insulated tomorrow with blown material. The company say that the insulation will completely cover the joists and they will put warning signs up there. I am slightly disabled and would prefer to have the stuff just up to the top of the joists so I can get about easier up there. Is this a reasonable request to make or am I negating the effectiveness of the process?

If you are having your loft insulated by a scheme subsidised by the energy companies or government, I believe they are obliged to put in the legal requirement of 250 mm which is likely to be way over your joists.

If you are paying on your own initiative, i imagine you could stipulate what you wish ( but not 100% certain)

Whichever it is, you should take care that any cable carrying heavy load e,g, electric shower or immersion heater is not buried as this risks overheating,
