Hello,

Completely clueless about all things plumbing so please be patient and any advice will be gratefully received.

CH and Radiators were working fine yesterday but this afternoon all radiators failed to come on.

We have a fairly old back boiler and have no instructions on how to work this or our timer. I have checked and the pilot light is still on. When you turn the timer on it fires the boiler (and makes the normal noise) and the tank/pump (i think) still hum. We still have hot water but no heat from our radiators.

Recently I bled a couple of radiators as they weren't working properly which rectified the problem and produced some mucky looking water.

The timer make is Tempus and the boiler is a Glow Worm Gas fire and back boiler unit FLR and I am not totally sure where the pump is. I dont even no if the timer/boiler has the function to turn the CH and HW on separately.

Anyone have any ideas? Completely desperate as due any day now and beginning to get very stressed!

Thanks :?:

like this (might be a different colour) under the floor at the side of the boiler or in a box at the side of the fireplace are fav's

undo the silver screw in the middle and see if the shaft is turning

there will be a slight water leakage that may be hot so have a rag handy

When the CH is on or off? Sorry just have no idea!

Don't forget to have a bowl under it to catch the water.

OK, I unscrewed the thing and saw the shaft inside not moving so I gently poked at it with my screwdriver and it started turning intermittently, I carried on poking it a little and it started turning even more, water bubbling so I screwed it back up and checked the boiler. The boiler is now making the usual noises and the radiators are starting to get hot.

Have we cracked it or does it sound like the pump is on its last legs?
