USB 1.0 to USB 2.0 query

I have an ibm r40e laptop which currently only has usb 1.0 or 1.1 (im not sure which) and i am looking to buy some sort of adapter to give me usb 2.0 but im not sure exactly what i need.

Could someone please help me out

sorry im getting mixed up the DVD writer that im going to be using it for, as the DVD writer requires the USB 2.0 to run/power it up.
Do you think this would be the appropriate adaptor or is it just cheap rubbish

you could stick a powered hub into it
