Use shower cable for wall socket instead?

The plug top fuses would provide the overcurrent protection for the appliances yes, However the cable and socket itself would still be protected by a 40A MCB. I might be wrong but i believe most twin sockets are only tested to about 20Amps. Its possible you could overload the socket without the mcb tripping. Either way for such a short run it seems very unnecessary.

No. The plug fuse(s), as do all OPD devices, protect(s) the cable and in this case, the socket.
How would you provide overcurrent protection for an inspection lamp with a 60W lamp?

No. Are you forgetting that most sockets are on 32A circuits?

There are often discussions about that and no one really knows.
Nevertheless, you can only plug 26A of load in a double socket.

How would 26A loading trip a 32A MCB?

Either way for such a short run it seems very unnecessary.
That is irrelevant.
