Using a UK extension on American voltage?

Hi there,

I'm going on a cruise soon. The ship is an American ship. I have a travel adapter to change from a UK plug to an American plug. I also have a 4 gang extension that I will be using so I can plug different things in at the same time. On the back of the extension is says 250V~. Will this be safe to use on an American voltage or will it blow or damage it?

The american voltage is 110 volt so the 230 volt UK extension lead is OK voltagewise.

Because the US voltage is lower then more current has to flow for the same power in the appliance so cable has to have thicker copper conductores.

But unless you are taking large appliances and only using the lead for battery chargers etc the extra current will not over load the extension lead

Travel adapters are bad new unless you are only running very small appliances such as a shaver. They generally are badly made, often reverse live and neutral or have no earth connection. They also don't conform to any countries standards.

So change the plug to a 3 pin US one.

Will the UK appliances you are taking work on 120 volts anyway?
