Using PVA before Plastering.

Before you skim a wall is it best to use PVA glue but...... do you wait for the glue to dry 24hrs before skimming, wait for it to be tacky or do you skim the walls just after you've applied the glue.

Its horses for courses. Depending on suction, excessive or lacking, and damp situation, PVA might be used in :

First coat to dry. It dries pretty quick.

Second coat applied immediately first coat dries.

Allow second coat to go tacky, and then begin to skim.

But, as a general rule, walls are not routinely PVA'd before skimming.

I thought that you had to PVA before skimming?

When I plaster, it falls off the wall!!

Was told PVA help the plaster to stick better because it cuts down on dust and aids suction to the wall.

PVA also stops the substrate sucking out the moisture too quickly

This helps it to dry in its own time ,which allows you to work it as you need ,preventing the material from falling off cracking etc

PVA and Bond it are plasterers friends ,unlike these poxy DIY programmes making people add to everything and the cure for the whole construction industry!
