The head of Britain’s vaccine taskforce is facing calls to resign after disclosing “official sensitive” government documents to a $200-a-head conference in America last week.

Kate Bingham, a venture capitalist who is married to a Conservative minister, was appointed to the role by Boris Johnson in May despite having no vaccines expertise. She reports directly to him.

Sounds terrible, until you look at what is actually happing on the vaccine development front.

1. most corporates involved are doing so on a not for profit basis and have given shareholders guidance not to get excited about efforts.
2. There has been very open communication between scientific bodies and drug manufacturers.
3. The headline talks about official sensitive. But that seems rather vague when you read..

Poor Doris is fishing in a very shallow pool of talent, because his boss ensured that all the competent, experienced senior tories with minds of their own were sacked, deselected, forced to resign, or sent to another place.

He only has his buddies, and people who are willing to pretend to be True Believers in Brexism and the Cummings agenda.

The issue is whether this information that was provided was material non public information.

But back to points 1: It is a bit facetious to say they are doing it for altruistic reasons - they are using public funding to accelerate their research and the contracts they have signed are private but in one case Astra Zenica where they limit this no-profit pledge.

the content of her presentation received approval from officials at the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy in line with the process governing such engagements. Kate Bingham focused on publicly available information and said little that expert delegates at the conference could not deduce themselves.
