BOILER WILL NOT LIGHT ON H/W OR HEATING NO VOLTAGE ON GAS VALVE BOILER JUST CARRIES ON SPARKING DID NOT SEEM TO GO TO LOCKOUT

Sounds like the Flame Supervision PCB needs replacing. A job for a RGI.

Try resetting the o/h stat!

Then find out why it tripped!

Tony

The boiler would not operate if the OH (manual reset) had tripped. The FS PCB constantly sparking but not locking out is a known problem. Trust me!

Bunny

Surely Bunnie, the symptoms he mentions would apply if the o/h stat had tripped? Sparking but no voltage on gas valve!

Tony

As far as I was aware, overheat usually leaves the pump running (to disipate heat)

Hi Tony

On a VCW242 there are two OH stats. The one on the heating flowpipe cuts the voltage to the gas operator if the primary temp exceeds 97C, so the boiler will lockout. The stat itself is self resetting. The other OH is a 110C Ranco stat with a phial in the MHEX. This cuts the live supply on the main PCB, hence no pump, fan etc.

If you were wondering, I've worked with & for Vaillant for too many years to mention...!

Well if its not the 242, then which Vaillant has the manual reset OH switch cunningly hidden inside a whitish plastic cover to hide it from Chris's view?

Tony

Hi Tony

Yes the one you are thinking about is the VUW 242 Turbomax. These have a black fascia and green knobs. That OH is even harder to find on the system boiler version, they put a wiring centre in front of it!

Bunny

OK thanks, its a different 242 then!

Probably like many people I find the vailant model identifying system very confusing.

Their serial numbers would probably identify every living inhabitant of the world! Twice 14 digits?
