Vaillant ecotec control dials came loose: Design fault?

Both of the control dials on our vaillant have separated from the shaft that goes through the control system.

Looking at them, they both separated at the same place and look identical at the break.
Looking at the board the shafts connect to I don't see how their case design would have allowed the shaft and control dial to be one single piece at manufacture.

Do they glue the dials to the control shaft? It certainly looks like there's glue at the break.

For now, I don't care so much as we don't really change the temps that often, but I don't want them always falling out.

1: Can I use a drop of superglue or similar to reattach?
2: Is it better to report to the manufacturer and have them send replacements?

Is the boiler still under warrentee?

If not both controls cost £8,change yourself

Thanks.

Plumber supply shop or direct from manufacturer only?

It's about 18 months old, but I don't know if the registration was sent in.

Still under warrentee try vaillant, be ready with the date of install and the serial #,if that fails any good supplier will be able to get those.good luck

I,m intrigued mickyg :o

more for my own interest/research. Call it coincidence but most of the ones I've had(80-90%) have been in fairly tight cupboards that stay quite warm. I wonder if they're affected by temp in some way or if its a humidity thing. Probably just a coincidence but who knows.......One things for sure......they do break quite alot :D

I,v only changed two, both on the same boiler, which was in a cupboard,

I thought it was the heavy handed drunk who rents the place, came home on a Saturday night, decided he wanted more heat, have no idea why the DHW switch had broken,he dont wash.

So your possible right

funny you should say that micky ive installed 5 eco tec no probs with any except the one in the cupboard knobs broke so had to replace em under my garanteee interesting i have same issue with turbomax pros

No cupboard around it.

I think a local plumber may have been heavy handed with the one, but the other just dropped off when I had to remove the wireless receiver, as mentioned in another post I made on the forum.

The glue holding the dial to the shaft looks a bit brittle.
