Can anybody help ? I have a 8 year old Vallient Turbomax boiler and have started to have problems with the hot water.

While using the taps and shower the water starts off coming out hot and then goes cold and stays cold. The boiler doesn't cutout but the only way to get it to go hot again is to turn the boiler off and on again. The water goes cold after about 2 minutes of use. I recently tried flushing the system, with chemicals, and it did stop going cold for about a day or so. I have not taken the chemicals out of the system yet, as they have only been in the system for about 3 days. I have ran the central heating 2 times to allow the systems to get hot. Yesterday the water started to go cold again. The difference this time is that the boiler use to cut out and show a F22 fault, but now the temperature just drops and the boiler stops coming on (flame light indicator not on).

Please can somebody help.

Without more information its not possible for me to come to any conclusing.

Diagnosing boiler faults involves TESTS.

The first one would be to see if the DHW demand switch stays made.

Sounds like diverter valve mate. Located in bottom right of boiler, sometimes the microswich fails or you can buy a referb kit with new diaphragm. Watch the arm move when someone switches the tap on.

I suggest calling Vailiant tech line as they'll give you more advice for free.

Thanks for all your replies. I have some more info if this helps. Today I put the tap on and the water started off hot and the orange light was flashing on and I could see the temperature rising and dropping in the little display on front of the boiler. Then the orange light went off and didn't come back on and the temperature dropped to 35 in the display. The water was cold and when I pressed the button with the picture of a flame with a line through it the boiler made the sound like it was resetting and the water started to come out hot again and the orange light came back on. Do you still think this is the diverter Valve. When the water went cold before I pressed the button with the picture of a flame, I did try to knock the diverter valve to see if it may be sticking, but it mad no difference.

If the temperature drops to 35 then if you left it long enough it would drop to about 16° or whatever the incoming water is at.

But I would expect that the burner will eventually come back on again! Perhaps you are not leaving it long enough.

If it did not come back on then a fault code should be shown.

Sounds more like a blocked heat exchanger to me so far.

What happens when you only run 3 litres per minute of hot water?

Tony

Hi Tony,

The only way the water get hot again is if I reset the boiler. I can leave the water running cold for 10 minutes and it will just stay cold. As soon as I reset the boiler the water starts to get hot again and then a fem minutes later cold again.

Sorry. I'm not sure what you mean. If I try to fill 3 empty 3 litre bottles I will only be able to fill one and then the water goes cold.
