Valve on ch

Hi workman took radiator off today for plastering at my mum's. Boss said 10mins at most. No need to touch any other radiators.
Guys been in every room bled all the radiators. Took the one that needs coming off the wall. And there's a problem. The radiator is old. Never seen a valve like that before they don't make them any more. Can't stop the water. Left the radiator off till tomorrow. Took valve. What's going on

1. Looks like a union fitting valve. (Union rather than compression) Nothing like as common as they used to be but you can still get them. E.g. Screwfix 901FW
2. Sounds as if he didn't know much plumbing. Should have been able to close both valves, unscrew then from the radiator tails and remove the radiator. Sensible to cap both valve outlets (3/4 BSP for union, 1/2 BSP for compression) in case of valve leakage.

So do you still have a leak? I would say they're liable for any damage. No need to vent/bleed other radiators unless warranted. As above should have been able to isolate the 2 valves and remove rad, blanking any trvs. As above as well, those valves still available.

He's capped the pipe till tomorrow when the plastering will be done. Then he's gonna put a new valve on at a cost of course.

Only cost should have been to remove the rad and return to refit.

not unusual for old valves not to completely turn off so not down to the guy if it needs replacing as its an old faulty valve
