Hello,

Very quick question.

Can you apply Danish oil onto a previously varnished surface?

Also can you put Danish oil on laminated pine board?

Thanks

James

No , it’s oil, it can’t soak in to a sealed surface, you would have to remove varnish.

... And then you run the risk of a patchy finish as the "varnish" may well have sunk inti the grain differently depending on timber species, cut orientation (quarter sawn, rift, crown, etc) and so forth

Are you even certain it is varnish? Not a common finish on DIY stuff since the 1960s, and not really used on commercially made stuff, other than dipped items such as tool handles, since before WWII (and not that common even then - French polish and cellulose lacquers were far more popular in Europe and the USA on account of varnish's tendency to craze over time)

Hi Yes its defiantly varnish as my dad varnished it.

That's fine I will just see if I can get the matching colour and go over it.

Can you put Danish oil on laminated pine board?

Thanks

James
