Varnishing with stain Georgian doors

hi. Any tips on beat way to stain and varnish original Victorian and Georgian doors? Restoring Georgian house and trying to avoid all the pit falls this naturally brings

I've used Osmo oil on my doors and floors, works well and easy to maintain (apparently, I've only just done it). I got best results on doors my applying with a cloth, must better finish IMO.
