my vaux 1.6 cavaliier-G reg-will not run when cold.it starts ok then goes onto megachoke and quickly dies. once warm its ok but sometimes, even when warm it wont run . idle speed will drop to nil, lodsa restarts, and suddenly its ok again. All pipework is ok,plugs and air filter ok.anyone got a diagnosis???

Sounds like the auto choke is faulty, easiest and cheapest way is to get one off a scrapper, should be quite a few around.

Hye

I had the same car and problem.Choke not working properly, missfiring, idle speed dropping so low that it cuts out.

The problem is that the pierburb carburettors that are fitted to the vauxhalls only last for around 60 k and then they begin to play up. What i did was to get a car from scrapers which cost me £30 and fitting was pretty easy (This was aorund 4 years ago so maybe even cheaper now). Alternatively you could get a service kit for around £30 for it, that includes jets etc and get that fitted by someone. That should cure the bad idleing. As for the choke, try putting cleaning it fully with carb cleaner and then once dry put wd-40 on the joints and working of the choke.

Let me know how you get on
