Hello,

We've been having a grand time with our boiler over the last few days, most of it sorted now, but for one thing.

The panel on the front of the combustion chamber is bent, and the seals aren't doing a great job. There's some whistling, and we've had a couple of *loud* explosive ignitions in the night, despite our gas guy trying to bend it back into shape.

I'm told it might be difficult/impossible to get a replacement panel, due to the age of the boiler. Does anyone have the part number for it (only have the short parts list here)? At least I can take a look for it then.

Cheers,
Mark

My immediate question is how did it become bent?

Its less likely to be easily available as a new part although it might be if its ordered and incurs additional carriage.

But far cheaper is if you can find a used part. Thats best through someone who is replacing one.

There are many who read these forums who mostly install boilers and yours is quite old and often being replaced now.

Of course your gas guy if minded to be helpful should know all the other local installers and shoulod be able to source one. Many are less helpful though.

Perhaps someone on here migh have one. Just to confirm the part it could help if you measure the dimensions in mm and quote them. The last thing you want is to pay and have it posted only to find its the wrong size.

ive been to a couple of these that havent been put back on properly causing the whistling, caused by the lug bits at the top.if hes started bending it and messing about with it he couldve wrecked it.as said when did it become bent?

Spoke to Vaillant and they reckon it's part number 078258.

It's 400mm width, 540mm height. 56mm diameter viewing window. Hooks over the top of the chamber, and secured by three screws, halfway along the left side, right side, and the bottom.

The bottom screw has been tightened quite a lot, which may have bent out the corners either side. That seems to be where the gap is. Might have been bent before though. Our gas guy tried to bend it back into form, but it's still out. Currently lasts about 7 mins on central heating before it bangs and cuts out.

Found this:

Which leads to this:

Spoke to Vaillant again, and they wouldn't say if it's a suitable replacement. Understandable I guess, but maybe someone here is familiar with it?

We'll have to replace the boiler at some point, but that'll be a couple of months at least. If I can get a new or used panel, that'd be great. Get some heat in the place!

Cheers,
Mark
