can I grow veg indoors, or at least start them off?

I have a spare room that gets the sun..

I wonder how often I'd get raided by the police if I set up a hydroponic growing room in the spare room just for veg..
It'd be worth the hassle just to see the look on their faces when they realise they've just "busted" a hardcore cabbage and leek growing lab... :)

I used to grow veg in my kitchen on the top floor of a multistory block. I got a great supply of tomatoes, lettuce etc. I expected a visit to check the tomato plants but it never happened.
(I did hear about someone who hung vine tomatoes on his cannabis plants and the police ignored the plants while searching his house)

My parents used to grow onions in the kitchen on the windowsill (the window overlooks our garden).

I can remember many years ago my gran lived in an old house, the sort which had quarries just laid on dirt and in the cupboards next to the range she grew mushrooms.
But yes it's possible to grow indoors, after all a green house is an indoor place.
Wouldn't worry too much about the police unless you are planning to grow exotic types of veggies, most "weed farms" in houses are picked up by thermal imagery i.e. the house is unduly hot for a domestic residence.
I would be more worried about loads imposed. Assuming that you maximise the space and use tiered racking it could put quite a weight on the floors which may be a problem in an upstairs room.

my floors are concrete... should be fine..

I wasn't thinking about loads of stuff, just a few planters of leeks and cabbages..
when it warms up again I'd shift the planting to outside until sort of October / November..

I think growing Veggies in indoor will not be good idea because thought your room gets sun but still the growth which can be in out in the sun will not be same in the room.. just a thought of mine :)
