velux window jammed

if I open my velux ggl-1 window wide, as I have just done, it won't close. I tried forcing it but something is blocking the mechanism. Any idea how I can release it?

check that the screws that hold the hinges on either side have not come out?if they have the timber may have split hence why the screws are loose?
