Hi folks,

I've got a new cavity wall meeting an existing one to form a new porch, and a vertical slot has been cut into the original wall to prevent damp passing into the inside of the porch.

The new cavity wall stops at about 700mm high and switches to a PVC window frame.

Should the vertical cut continue inside this area?

To my mind if it doesn't then damp will soak through the old bricks (at the top of the "T" shape) and through, and it was pointless putting a vertical cut on the cavity wall part.

At the moment it's been left without this though.

Thanks,
Rich

Yes, as you say, it's pointless cutting the bottom without doing the top...
However there must be 000's without a cavity cut out or a vertical DPC fitted, depends on the porosity of the bricks, and the exposure of the building to the prevailing wind & rain, as to whether there's a problem or not.
