vibrating noise from radiator

hi, long story short.son at uni, so i have turned his drayton thermostat off on the rad,When we turn the heating on after about an hour the radiator gives out a humming vibration noise so we turn the thermo up and it stops.
But it is now humming even when the thermostat is set at a low temp
Any help would be gratefully taken.

Could be an older directional sensitive valve fitted on the return rather than the flow and the 'innards' are rattling around when restricting the flow. Or the valve is knackered.

The valve could be changed for a bidirectional one which should help.
In the mean time try leaving tha valve either fully open or shut.
